Highly-acclaimed
director excited by dramaÕs Òraw authenticityÓ
NEW YORK, NY
(October 21, 2009) -
Director Richard Caliban, fresh off his successful run with ÒMom - A Rock
Concert MusicalÓ, has
joined the theatrical production of ÒThe Cutting DenÓ, it was announced today
by Barbara Mosinski, the dramaÕs associate producer.
ÒThe Cutting
DenÓ is a modern day flood story set in a Brooklyn barbershop/bookie parlor
during the first week of the Major League baseball season. When debts go unpaid
sparks fly until the shop burns red-hot.
The play will appear at Soho Playhouse in New York City from Feb 4 - Feb
21, 2010.
Playwright Ron
Scott Stevens is the former chairman of the NY State Athletic Commission. His last play, ÒCherryÕs PatchÓ, was
also directed by Richard Caliban.
ÒI am pleased that Mr. Caliban has joined our production,Ó said
Stevens. ÒHe is a very talented
director who has an incredible knack for getting the actors to deliver what the
playwright intends.Ó
Richard CalibanÕs
ÒMom - A Rock Concert MusicalÓ won the award for Outstanding Musical at the
2009 New York International Fringe Festival, and is now in development for a
commercial production. Caliban is the former Artistic Director of the Cucaracha
Theatre and is currently a faculty member of the National Theatre Conservatory
in Denver. ÒI am eager to get
started on ÔThe Cutting DenÕ,Ó said Caliban. ÒIt is the kind of play written by someone who has lived in
the real world, not around theater people.Ó
